Candace Looper
Candace Looper Welcome families to Universal Mental Health Early Intervention Services! I am Candace Looper. I have over 15 years of experience working with children and their families in multiple settings and capacities. After spending nearly 6 years in the early childhood classroom, mostly with toddlers, but with all ages from 6 weeks to 12 years, I moved to Wilmington, NC to pursue my degree. I graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2009 with a BA degree in Education of Young Children and a BA degree in Psychology. As I completed my degrees, I also completed an internship in Early Intervention working with Easter Seals UCP Early Childhood Outreach Services. It was through my experiences at UNCW and this internship that I became most interested in the Early Intervention portion of this field. Throughout the years since graduation, I have worked as a nanny for families and in administration in multiple child care centers and preschools. Always through these experiences, I have found my passion to be focusing on the cognitive, physical, and social/emotional development of the children I have served. I have often been faced with behavior challenges and find it most interesting to find a meaning and understanding of the behaviors and learning and using ways of correcting those behaviors to more appropriate ones. I have also often been faced with developmental delays and challenges for which I also thoroughly enjoy researching and developing and understanding of these delays and challenges and working with the family to develop a plan of strategies to help the child to excel to his/her utmost potential. I am very excited to be on board at Universal Mental Health and to be working with children and families as an Infant/Toddler Early Intervention Specialist. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the most important years of you your child’s life!!
